Privacy policy

Last updated October 26, 2026

The short version: 49Across runs entirely in your browser. Your financial plan never leaves your device — we could not see it if we wanted to. We count anonymous usage events so we know which features are useful, and nothing in those events comes from your plan.

01

Your plan stays on your device

Everything you enter into the planner — accounts, balances, income, dates, scenarios — is stored only in your browser's local storage, on your own device. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. This demo has no accounts and no sign-in, and the server features that could sync or share a plan are switched off.

The guided setup (“Build your plan”) works the same way: your draft answers are stored only in your browser's local storage while you work through the questions, and a draft backup you download is created on your device. Nothing in a draft is transmitted either.

When you export your plan (as JSON, CSV or a Markdown brief), the file is created in your browser and downloaded to your device. What you do with it from there is up to you.

You can erase everything the planner has stored at any time by clearing site data for this site in your browser settings.

02

Anonymous usage analytics

We use PostHog, hosted in the United States, to record a small set of anonymous usage events:

  • Pages viewed — the page path only (for example, /plan).
  • Navigation: clicks on the landing page's planner buttons (which button, and where on the page it sits), and which parts of the planner you open — the main tabs (Your plan, Scenarios, Results, Stress tests), the plan sections (for example, Accounts & investments) and the results views (for example, Compare scenarios) — each recorded by name, so we can tell which parts of the planner people actually use.
  • Feature use: that the planner was opened, that a scenario was created (and how: from the baseline, as a linked variant, or as an independent copy), that the funding optimizer was run, that an optimizer scenario was applied, that a stress test completed (with the simulation method used: Monte Carlo or block bootstrap), and that a plan was exported (with the export format: JSON, CSV or Markdown).
  • Guided setup: that setup was started (new or resumed), which of its five chapters was viewed or completed (Your move, Household, Finances, Review, Your plan), that the Back button was used, that a step was blocked by a missing answer (with the chapter and the kind of step, never the answer), that a draft could not be saved to the browser, whether a first calculation completed (complete or provisional), and that a first result was viewed (with the planning goal chosen: retirement affordability, comparing destinations, or moving versus staying). No answer you give in the setup — no amount, date, place or personal detail — is ever part of these events.

No event ever includes an amount, a balance, a date from your plan, a scenario name, or anything you typed into the planner. Alongside each event, PostHog records ordinary technical details automatically: browser, device type and operating system, approximate location (city and country) derived from your IP address, and an anonymous identifier stored in a cookie and in local storage in your browser.

We do not use automatic click capture or session recording — we never watch your screen or replay your visit — and we never ask for your name or email address, so these statistics are not linked to who you are. We use them only to learn which features are useful and whether the site is working.

What we don't do

No advertising trackers. No selling or sharing of data for marketing. No tracking across other sites. No accounts, and no mailing list is collected through this demo.
